The Rampion Bellflower is an old, domestic crop that has often been grown in the 17th but, now, is often found as a plant escaped from cultivation.
It reaches up to one metre in height and bears pale purple blossoms in summer that show to advantage in the wild shrub bed.

The leaf rosette is used like lamb's lettuce. The small roots are appreciated especially raw as a tasty vegetable. They have a delicate, very sweet taste.
